3rd and 4th Grade Art Projects

This quarter students in 4th grade completed their "favorite place" tunnel books.  Students learned about depth, space and creating details.  They turned out great and I love how unique they all are from one another.  3rd graders learned about the artist Paul Cezanne and the technique of collage with our student teacher, Miss Bykowski.  They did a remarkable job creating textured paper with paint and used the paper to create landscape collages.

4th Grade Line Sculptures

4th graders did a fabulous job creating these artworks emphasizing line and pattern!  They learned how to create interest in their art with the use of various lines and colors.  They began with a "Take a Line for a Walk" drawing and then got creative with their designs.  After completing the drawing they cut it out and made a sculpture by bending, rolling, or folding the paper.

Highlights from this week in Art Class

This week 2nd Graders have been finishing their collages with their secondary color paintings.  They learned about color mixing with "blob paintings" by mixing primary colors to form the secondary colors.  Each shape was then cut and their imaginations took over! Students turned the paintings into creatures, plants, robots, etc., by using their shapes and other materials creatively.   They are also learning how to talk and write about their art and the artwork of their peers using an art vocabulary.

It's always fun to watch kindergartners paint!  In kindergarten students paint often in art class and learn proper procedures with "Mr. Brush."  This week students painted an arctic sky using the crayon resist method.  Students drew the lines and shapes of their choice with a white oil pastel and then painted over the lines with the colors of their choosing to reveal their drawing.

2nd Grade and 3rd Bears and Toucans

2nd and 3rd graders have been learning about composition with these artworks.  2nd graders learned about foreground and background and how to create details to show their bear's habitat.

3rd Graders work hard on these chalk pastel toucans! They learned how to create an interesting composition by choosing where to place their toucan(s), and the rest of their details for the habitat.  They also learned techniques for using the chalk pastels, including blending and color mixing.
