4th Grade Magazine Bowls

Our student teacher, Miss Deale, has been teaching this project with the students and they are loving it!  On the first day they have been learning about human consumption and recycling.  They have also been learning about artists who use found objects, (or items that would normally be thrown in the trash), to create their artwork.  For this project, 4th graders are recycling old magazines by creating a bowl with the pages.  On the first day of this project they have been creating the rods by folding and gluing one magazine page at a time.  During the next class they will continue this process to make more rods then assemple the rods to create a bowl.

Kindergarten Landscapes

We are learning how to paint using watercolors this week.  The students are painting a sky and grass background that will be used next time in art class.  They will draw using oil pastels and create a scene that includes flowers and other details from their imaginations.  This project is also for the Art to Remember Fundraiser.
On the second day of this lesson the Kindergarteners learned about the medium of oil pastels.  We also read a book about the four seasons and discussed characteristics of landscape.  The students chose to depict either a summer or autumn scene and draw it on their painted background.
