The 2015-2016 school year is my 8th year teaching for Harrisonburg City Public Schools. I love teaching children about art and enjoy seeing their creativity every day! I believe in fostering an art classroom that encourages children to create using their own ideas and think through an art process.
We learn about various artists, art making techniques, a variety of cultures and cross-curricular themes. We create artworks that emphasize the elements of art and principles of design as well as artworks that convey personal meaning.
I am originally from upstate New York and graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2006 with a BFA in studio art, concentrating in photography. After Plattsburgh I studied at Radford University and graduated in 2008 with my M.S. in Education, emphasizing in art education.
I enjoy living in Virginia with my husband, Jason, and we love the outdoors. In our spare time we love to ski, bike, play golf and spend time with our dog Carmine :) As for my own artwork I concentrate in photography. I also own a photography business and photograph weddings and portraits professionally. Check out my website here: www.samantharitter.com
In 2013 we went to Peru, and visited Machu Picchu. What a remarkable trip!
A year ago there was a huge field of sunflowers on Rt.33 If you live in the area you may remember seeing this unbelievable field!
