The Smithland Elementary Art Show

We had a great turn out for our K-4th grade art show to celebrate Youth Art Month!  Every child had one piece of artwork displayed from art class this year.  A collaborative circle painting was also on display that was made by several grade levels during March.  Thank you also to our PTO who provided a collaborative artwork for students during the art show and refreshments.

2nd Grade Artwork-Creating from Observation

2nd Graders have been learning how to draw and paint from observation over the last couple of months.  They have created stunning flower artworks while also learning about the artist Georgia O'Keefe.  They are currently creating still life paintings using the observational strategies they learned from previous drawings.  Next up will be post instruction self-portraits.

3rd and 4th Grade Art Projects

This quarter students in 4th grade completed their "favorite place" tunnel books.  Students learned about depth, space and creating details.  They turned out great and I love how unique they all are from one another.  3rd graders learned about the artist Paul Cezanne and the technique of collage with our student teacher, Miss Bykowski.  They did a remarkable job creating textured paper with paint and used the paper to create landscape collages.
